Important Chain Saw Certification Information
BCHU is looking to conduct two or more certification classes for this upcoming spring for chainsaw bucking. We want to know who needs the certification. The certification usually requires 4 hours of classroom work and 4 hours of practical use of the chainsaw (depending on the number of students and teachers available). We generally restrict the number of students to 5 for each evaluator on the practical portion.BCHU is looking to conduct two or more certification classes for this upcoming spring for chainsaw bucking. The classes can be held close to where most of the students live or near Price, Utah. If we moved to an offiste, but we would need some place for the classroom portion and an area with sufficient downed trees for the practical portion. We would prefer them within easy driving distance of each other.
Requirements for this course include: Current First Aid and CPR card (must be from an in-person class)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that includes
- hard hat,
- hearing protection,
- eye protection,
- long sleeve shirt,
- full length pants,
- chainsaw chaps, and
- eight-inch boots.
Note: we have a few chainsaw chaps and a hard hat for those who do not come with them. However, it would be better if you came with your personal PPE as you will need them to do chainsaw work on the trails.
Also needed is your chainsaw in proper working order, with fuel (in approved container), chain oil, and 1 or 2 wedges. Fuel should be in an approved container. You may also use an electric chainsaw.
Timing for the class will depend on snow cover and road conditions but will be held as soon as possible in the spring. Please canvas your members to see who wants the certification and determine if it is wanted locally or near Price.
